YouTube Video Creation – Quick Start

A lot of people are afraid of being on camera, they worry how they are going to look, how they are going to sound, will people like their videos, etc. Now, I get it.

I remember when I started doing videos I did screen captures with no sound, just text bubbles appearing when something needed explaining.

That‘s what my videos looked like, and you can do those too if you are afraid of being on camera. It didn‘t take me long to finally start shooting screen casts or power point presentations with my voice.

Later I added my face at the corner of the videos, and after that, I started feeling pretty comfortable being in front of the camera. Now it's super easy for me to be on camera. Baby steps I would say.

So, start with what feels right for you and keep improving your presentation skills.

Some people recommend recording videos just for the sake of recording and don‘t upload them. Personally, I try to record a video every single day, most of the videos I just delete right after recording, but if it goes well I upload it to my channel.

I‘m doing this to improve my presentation skills, to talk more freely, to lose my fear of cameras, etc. I remember taking a long break without recording a single video for more than a month. When the time came to record I felt the anxiety to start recording; it was actually quite stressful. What do I say? What do I do? Will people listen? Will I look stupid?

So, after that time I decided to practice daily, and that‘s what I recommend for you.

Video Creation Tools

To create videos you will need tools. The tools depend on the type of video you want to create. If you want to create good screen captures, then I recommend using Camtasia.

It does cost a little bit of money though, however, if you want a free alternative, you can check out CamStudio.

For shooting regular videos, you don‘t need expensive cameras. A simple webcam can work, sometimes those are built into laptops.

If you are looking for better quality, then check out the camera of your smart phone, if it isn‘t five years old, then the camera is going to be pretty good. Our phones are pretty damn good with these kinds of things nowadays.

I personally use a Canon 80D with a Rode Video Micro microphone. Lovely setup if I'm honest.

You might also want to use software for video editing. For this, I recommend Adobe Premier Pro, which is quite affordable actually. If you're a student, it's even cheaper.

Also, if you already have the Camtasia Studio you can use it for editing, but again, if you're after a free solution, you can try out OpenShot or VSDC.

Optimising Videos Like A Pro

Now, that you have a video shot you will need to upload it to YouTube, which is super easy to do. You click upload, find the video file, click okay, and you‘re done. Just by uploading your video you won‘t get a lot of views… if any at all.

You need to optimise your video for the search engines to find it.

Video Title

You want to have your main keyword in your title, if possible even twice. I cannot stress enough how important Titles are.

Here are some examples:

  • SEO For Bloggers
  • What Every Blogger Needs To Know About SEO Solo Ads VS Ad Swaps
  • Are Ad Swaps Going To Disappear? How To Get Facebook Fans
  • 2 Simple Techniques To Get More Fans On Your Facebook Fanpage

It‘s best if the keyword phrase isn‘t split, but it‘s not always possible to do. I wouldn‘t sacrifice readability over optimisation.

First thing in your description is you want to put your video title again.

Yes, just copy paste it.

After that, it‘s a good idea to have a link to your website, squeeze page or whatever you promote to make money.

After you have those, you want to write several paragraphs about your video and make sure to use relevant keywords. The longer the description, the better. Some say… To be honest, this is still up for debate.

You want to max out this space with relevant keywords. There‘s a limit to how many tags you can put, and you want to reach it.

I recommend using keyword tools like Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest to come up with good keyword ideas. Tags help YouTube determine what your video is about.

I recommend uploading your high-quality thumbnail. It is essential because it will appear all over YouTube and if the image isn‘t good, you will lose out on a lot of views. My personal favourite tool for this is Canva.

Create Good Videos

The best optimisation that you can do to your video is to make it good.

It might sound kind of cheesy, but that‘s what the YouTube algorithm wants. If your video is being watched from start to finish, then it will rank well.

If people watch only the first few seconds and leave, then your video won‘t rank well.

YouTube is tracking how much time on average visitors spend watching your videos and ranks your videos based on that info.
So, shooting better videos will rank you higher.

Also, consider shooting shorter videos, because if you upload hour long training sessions, those likely aren‘t going to get a lot of views without you doing some marketing first.

I would estimate that it‘s best to do three to five-minute videos because if the video is longer, it gets tough to keep the audience watching.

Fun Ways to Become a YouTube Star

If you want to become YouTube famous and earn money from it, the first thing you need to do is to brainstorm and come up with ideas to start your own channel. Do as much research and introspection as you can so that you can figure out the content of your videos as well as the theme and category of your channel. You can be as creative, unique, and innovative as you can. You can begin your research by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. What is my channel about?
  2. Who is my target audience?
  3. Which topics would my target audience be interested in?
  4. How will my videos be structured?
  5. How can I stand out from the rest?

Once you have a clear idea as to how you want your channel to be known, then you could focus on coming up with original content and get your camera rolling. If you already have a channel, and you are still finding it hard to know which types of videos to focus on, then consider these five examples:

Play Video Games

If you looked at the list of the most viewed channels on YouTube, you would see that most of them are gaming channels.

The top spot belongs to Pewdiepie who is undoubtedly the most famous of them all with over 8 billion views. If you love gaming and consider yourself a gamer, why not create game walkthrough videos?

The best part about creating your gaming channel is that there is a big possibility that you can earn money from doing the thing that you love. Another advantage of revolving the theme of your channel around gaming is that it is one of the most watched contents on YouTube. For example, if a person wants to purchase a new game, he could easily search for reviews, short clips, or a person playing the game on YouTube to help him decide. The negative aspect of starting your own gaming channel is that you have a lot of competition.

For example, if a person wants to purchase a new game, he could easily search for reviews, short clips, or a person playing the game on YouTube to help him decide. The negative aspect of starting your own gaming channel is that you have a lot of competition.

Therefore, you must be able to create unique, engaging, and informational videos that are all based on your interests. You can gain a lot of inspiration by just watching other popular videos from other gaming channels. Observe and learn about their selling points so that you can focus on using those strengths for your channel.

YouTube is also famous for its wide range of how-to videos. There, you can watch videos about how you can install a software program to videos that are about how you can apply the perfect cat eye make-up.

A lot of people have been making tutorial videos to showcase their talent and share their expertise with millions of people around the world. How-to videos are a big hit because it contains a lot of practical tips that help people learn and do things faster and easier.

Today, anyone can be a professional guitar player, master baker, or expert magician just by clicking through the tutorials available on YouTube.

The bottom line is, free instructional videos are always a big hit. You can start your own How-to channel by thinking of the things that you are really passionate about

Make Product Reviews

It is typical for people to gather as much information they can about a product before buying it. If you want to make money on YouTube, you can focus on making affiliate product reviews. A lot of channels about technology and the latest gadgets often get a lot of the newest devices before they are even re- leased to the public.

Doing tech reviews for awesome gadgets such as the Google glass, latest apple products, and different cameras can get you a lot of attention, views and subscribers. Let’s be honest, who would not want a free review or consultation of an expensive product that they are interested in buying?

When you can build trust and reputation to your fan base, there is a greater chance that sponsors and affiliate products would be coming to you and giving you their products for free.

Upload Song Covers

“When my YouTube videos started to get really big, I was like, ‘Man, this is pretty sweet.’ It started as my hobby, and then I started travelling and learning how to play different instruments, and then it just kind of became my life.” -Austin Ma- hone

A lot of the artists that we know today became famous because of YouTube. Boyce Avenue, Austin Mahone, 5 Seconds of summer, Christina Grimmie and of course Justin Bieber have been discovered or have significantly enlarged their fan base just by uploading their videos on YouTube. If you are musically inclined and want to share your talent

If you are musically inclined and want to share your talent to the world, do not hesitate to get yourself a decent recording equipment and start filming your singing or jamming sessions.

Make Comedy Sketches

Smosh, nigahiga, and jennamarbles became famous because of their humour and comedy sketches. Comedy channels with original content usually have a lot of followers because of their unique sense of humour. Since laughter still and will always be the best medicine, why not focus on making videos with hilarious content? You can do standup, rant about the most trivial things, or make parodies of the latest trends.

As I’m writing this, I have a headache. A big one. The last few weeks have been stressful. Since being back from my month-long jaunt to the land of the free (USA), I’ve come back with new vigour.

These are directly associated with Claim Social Authority as well as the impression I want to make in this industry. Without going round in circles, let me lay it on you.

Buckle up boys (and girls of course), it’s about to get real up in this mother…

Oh, a little disclaimer here… It might get a bit long. Let’s be real, most of you won’t bother reading this, and hey, that’s your prerogative.

Why are my YouTube Views stuck at 301?

This will be a very quick and very short post about something that is perfectly normal, you'll be pleased to hear!

When a video hits 301 views, the view counter briefly stops updating. This simply means that YouTube is checking the views to make sure that no foul play is going on.

At times the number 301 catches some YouTubers off guard – for very popular videos, it may appear that the video has more likes than views, however the public views counter just hasnt updated as yet.
